For this backyard retreat, the landscape designer chose our Pathway Full Range pavers. The homeowner got a wonderful backyard to enjoy in retirement, and for the designer, it wasn’t a hard sell at all. It also looks great at night.

The idea was to build a place where a homeowner could enjoy a well-deserved retirement along the North Carolina coast, right at home. The backyard hints at this homeowner’s hobbies, with a well-designed outdoor kitchen with a pergola and a greenhouse, all anchored by clay pavers.

It’s also soothingly illuminated after dark, to enjoy ocean breezes into the small hours. And, it’s a design with panache and thoughtful decisions by Mark Moreno.

Moreno, project manager for Real Hardscapes & Landscape in Castle Hayne, NC, said that he used a combination of basketweave and herringbone patterns throughout the project.

The job required 15 cubes and covered roughly 1,500 square feet, counting all the cuts that had to be made.

We’ve been selling jobs with Pine Hall Brick pavers for 10 years and you can’t go wrong with them.

“This is their dream garden, they are retired, and they want this to be their last and perfect design, and that’s what we were going for,” said Moreno.

A special approach for a forever garden

Walkways lead to a kitchen patio, a water fountain patio, the floor of the greenhouse, and a small additional patio section. Moreno,  the company’s owner, Juan Diaz, and the homeowner came up with the design by walking the property and noting what the property owner wanted and where he wanted it.

“It took about four days to get done, but we’ve got a lot of guys working on it,” said Moreno. “It was a conventional crusher run and sand installation.”

It’s a comfortable and comforting outdoor living space, day and night.

The paver choice was easy

Moreno said the only choice for the project was Pine Hall Brick Company clay pavers.

“We’ve been selling jobs with Pine Hall Brick pavers for 10 years, and you can’t go wrong with them,” said Moreno. “They look great, and they hold up well. Five years after you put them in, they still look great. We always get a consistently good product. And they’re all the same size so it makes them easy to install.”

The homeowners’ greenhouse and fountain on the edge of the hardscape give a tropical feel.

Sounds to us like Moreno would be a good salesman for Pine Hall Brick Company. Sounds like that to him, as well: before he went to work for Real Hardscapes & Landscape, he sold clay pavers for a Pine Hall Brick Company distributor.

“It’s a good product,” said Moreno.

Especially when you can use them in an installation like this.

“This is their dream garden, they are retired, and they want this to be their last and perfect design, and that’s what we were going for,” said Moreno.
