Rumbled® Full Range clay pavers create a custom outdoor living space that blends naturally with an older brick home and existing stone walls.
When homeowners with a mid-century Raleigh, NC, home set out to update their backyard, they had one clear directive: create a new outdoor living space that felt original to the house.
With a brick-heavy foundation and a mature, wooded lot, the project demanded materials that could blend seamlessly with what was already there.
The existing stacked stone wall visually connects with the patio’s brick tones. Custom masonry details, including a built-in shelf, tailor the space for everyday outdoor living.

Kendell Stephenson, owner of PlantScapes Landscape Design, designed a curved patio centered on a fire pit, carefully balancing new construction with existing features—most notably a pre-existing stacked stone wall that wrapped the property.
“There was already a lot of stone and brick on the house, and the goal was to stay consistent with the aesthetic the home was already giving off,” Stephenson said. “They wanted to match that existing wall as closely as possible.”
We work closely with our clients to ensure a smooth project. In this case, the job is in a very wooded lot, and they had a pre-existing stacked stone wall that wrapped around their walkway back there. They wanted to match that as close as we could.
Circular fire pit anchors the space, surrounded by warm, color-blended brick pavers.
The solution was Pine Hall Brick Company’s Rumbled® Full Range clay pavers. Known for their subtle color variation and weathered character, the pavers allowed PlantScapes to coordinate the patio surface with the tones of the stone wall while complementing the home’s brick foundation.
Rumbled® Full Range pavers coordinate with the home’s brick foundation and mature landscape.
“The color blend really helped everything tie together,” Stephenson said. “It looks like it’s always been part of the property.”
Beyond aesthetics, the project included custom masonry details tailored to the homeowners’ lifestyle, including a built-in column with a stone shelf near the grilling area.
“A lot of it was designed specifically around how they wanted to use the space,” Stephenson said. “That’s what made it work.”
The finished patio feels grounded, cohesive, and authentic—an outdoor room that enhances the home without conflicting with its history.
