Clarksville, TN - August 2005

 

Master Sergeant Luis Rodriguez worked as a combat medic in the field and served in Iraq. In 2003 while en route to a recently looted hospital in Mosul, Luis and his envoy were ambushed as their Humvee struck a roadside bomb. Luis instantly lost his right leg above the knee; lost two left fingertips and sustained serious shrapnel wounds to his left leg.

Luis refuses to retire from the Army and the job he loves. He is working as an instructor at the combat school of medicine at the Army's Ft. Campbell base. Sgt. Rodriguez wants to keep teaching soldiers how to protect themselves, how to save lives and still protect their own.

The Rodriguez family was surprised with a seven-day complete home makeover by the design team. Pine Hall Brick is proud to have been a part of building a home for this courageous hero and his family.

Michael Lucas is currently serving in the National Guard in Iraq. Michael and his wife Jean have two children: Michael and Joseph who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

Michael and his family bought a piece of land located on one of the neglected battlefields of the Civil War. Michael has a deep passion and appreciation for the history of his home state. Unfortunately, he was deployed to Iraq before he could finish building a home for his family.

The Extremely Makeover design team, with the help of local builder Ken Broadwater Homes, LLC and hundreds of volunteers, built the Lucas family a new home using brick donated by Pine Hall Brick. We feel privileged to have been a part of helping another of our brave heros provide a safe home for his family.
