A public high school’s new stadium needed a durable, color-fast paving product worthy of its mascot – a fierce, dark red cardinal. Now, fans and opponents of the Greenwich High School Cardinals enter the school’s new stadium on 2,600 square feet of English Edge Full Range pavers that immediately say, this is Cardinal country.
The clay pavers provide a smooth ADA compliant surface for all kinds of weather around an octagonal ticket kiosk at the main gate. There are also English Edge patios inside the stadium with seating and tables, adjacent to the home-side bleachers. The Full Range red and black also matches pavers seen in downtown Greenwich. Go Cardinals!
Pine Hall Brick was one of the only manufacturers during this time, post-Covid, that had available stock with short lead times.

The stadium is the result of carefully planned $20 million multi-phase investment by the local school system. KG+D Architects, Mount Kisco, New York, designed the stadium. Landscape architects Wesley Stout Associates collaborated with Homer C. Godfrey Masonry Supply on the hardscape portions of the job.
Price and long-range value of all materials are key to most publicly funded projects. Pine Hall Brick pavers checked both of those boxes. And with construction beginning in 2021, the pandemic had crimped the supply chain. But this was not a problem for the pavers.
“Pine Hall Brick was one of the only manufacturers during this time, post-Covid, that had available stock with short lead times,” said Caitlin Annecchino, of Homer C Godfrey.

The Greenwich Cardinal Stadium project involved the removal of an old, structurally deficient bleacher system that was replaced with a new bleacher system that included a press box, team room, athletic training space, restroom facilities and snack bar, outdoor seating areas, new entry kiosk, accessible parking spaces, and a rain garden.
In total, about 4,100 English Edge pavers were installed and the Full Range red and black is helping to augment hometown pride in its schools.
Black and red for the Cardinals
In all, Cardinal Stadium uses about 4,100 square feet of English Edge Full Range in two key areas: the main gate around the ticket kiosk and in patios adjacent to the bleachers that include tables for refreshments.

“The stadium is now built to the high standards appropriate for Greenwich,” said Greenwich Board of Education member Joe Kelly and the stadium’s ribbon cutting, as reported in Greenwich Times. “It was my honor to work with all the town departments and multiple individuals who contributed to the construction of Cardinal Stadium. I look forward to many Cardinal victories ahead.”
